Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
EMDR is a clinical process whereby clients can directly access their own source of wisdom/knowing within. This inherent body-mind-spirit healing system is accessed with biateral stimulation using simple eye movements, sound or gentle tapping. Most of us are familiar with the concept that our dreams help with processing daily experiences during REM, (rapid eye movement) sleep. Research indicates that REM is part of an innate healing system. EMDR allows the therapist to guide you in directly accessing this healing mechanism to transform negative self-beliefs into healthy, true beliefs. Negative beliefs can block your greater potential. Transformed core beliefs can reshape your entire outlook. For example: A lifetime of believing "I'm not good enough" can become "I'm fine the way I am" or "I am a good person." Another example after a childhood trauma: "I'm bad. It was my fault." can become, "I was just a little child. It wasn't my fault."
As a Transpersonal Psychotherapist, I find that the EMDR process aligns with my philosophical and political beliefs in the client's empowerment in their own healing. My personal and professional clinical experience has deepened me in a profound Trust that our human organism can naturally heal itself from trauma. Given a healthy environment, the "pull" of our psyche toward optimal health is as powerful as a compass pulling toward the North.
Mental health is your natural state of balance.
It is your birthright. It is your True Self waiting for you.
